There are foci of inflammation in one or two lungs. One lung is always more seriously affected than the other, and the changes start from the top. Eventually, caseous pneumonia may also develop.

The leg muscles become bigger and thicker, but their tone is weak. Muscle reflexes decrease or disappear. The motor muscle mass is reduced. An increase in the volume of the affected muscles is associated with the growth of fibrous tissue in the muscles. At the age of 16-18, patients are completely immobilized.
Treatment of serotonin syndrome includes elimination of the drug that leads to its appearance, infusion, control of fever and anxiety. In most cases (in the case of mild forms), intravenous injections and correction of vital functions have a good effect. In severe clinical cases, active intensive care is required.
The prognosis is serious, and in case of complications, it is unfavorable.
Patients usually die from other complications such as pneumonia, respiratory failure, and heart failure. In about half of cases, the disease occurs with mental retardation.
