Sergei Rakhmanin started out as a theater director, but already in the 90s he felt that he needed other tools to express his ideas, and began to create an author's cinema. He made his debut with the film "Man K" - an adaptation of Kafka's diaries with elements of improvisation.
The main character of the tape is a writer, whom critics call a genius and vying to predict a place in the history of literature. And he himself is rather a victim of impostor syndrome and feels great pain and irritation because of such laudatory comments. The style of shooting is a kind of homage to the work of Andrei Tarkovsky, there is the same slow rhythm, monochrome, immersion of a person into the inner world and the search for oneself among others.
After this painting, Sergei Rakhmanin created another one - the "Second", after which he emigrated to Argentina. There he cherishes his very idea - a film based on the text of Alexander Belyaev "Amphibian Man" - "Ichthyander", about the concept of which he does not get tired of talking in the press.

Mikhail Katz finally established himself as the unspoken leader of the Odessa auteur cinema with this tape, released in the same year with "Limping will enter first." As in the previous film, here is an appeal to biblical images, but no longer for teaching, biblical plots here rather set the mood and pace of the entire tape, and allusions to biblical heroes are read by ordinary residents.
The film was created in the style of hyperrealism, it starred non-professional actors, helped to create a special atmosphere of utmost honesty.
The film took the prize of the professional jury of the International Film Festival "Cinema for which there is no shame" (Shameless cinema) and the main prize of the International Film Festival in Colombia.
